Good things come to those who wait I guess? This is a video of a song called “House of Lies” that I wrote around 2001. I finally recorded “House of Lies” in 2006. In 2010, I finally released it on a record (Conspiracy Game Theory). In this year of 2013, with the good will of a few friends, I finally had the fortune of shooting and editing a video for it. It was just one of those fortuitous circumstances where the right people and circumstances came together. We had the time, a few tools, the talent, and just the right “props.”
I was on my way back from playing The Wicked Faire in New Jersey, and asked if I could stay (again) with my friend Skittels and his girlfriend Tig. Skittels just happens to have a background in stage tech although I was not really sure what he did. He had a camera and I mentioned that I thought that several elements where they lived would make good backgrounds for a video to my song “House of Lies.” Once I explained what I was trying to do, he said he could run lights to where we needed them and shoot the footage, so I took him up on it.
We spent about 6 hours getting the various shots, during which, Skittels came up with some good lighting and lighting variations which I think really helped capture the mood and look I was going for. Normally, I’m not a fan of strobe lights, but the way he used them really worked for me. He also spontaneously constructed a boom using his tripod and was able to get some nice footage that way.
After this, I visited my friend Lyn Garry Cook since he was on my way, and he happens to be very skilled in video editing. He graciously hosted me (and fed me!) and we spent 12 hours poring over the footage to cut it into something that flowed smoothly and would move at the “right” pace. Once we were satisfied with the final version, he burned me a copy and now I have a video.
I can’t say enough thanks to Skittels, Tig, and Garry for contributing their creative talent, effort, spare rooms, and cooking to making this happen! I could not have done it without you guys! Thank you much!
Here is the final “House of Lies” video that you can download for now until I change it to “streaming only” at a later time. Just tweet that you got it, and it’s yours!
